Probing tip-induced attractive deformation of graphite surfaces through wave function dissipation in field emission resonance

چکیده

Abstract We studied wave function dissipation (WFD) in field emission resonance (FER) by performing scanning tunneling microscopy on the highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) and Ag(111) surfaces under two conditions: (1) same current FER number; (2) tip structure but different currents. Under first condition, we observed that decay rate corresponding to WFD exhibited a larger variation HOPG surface than it did surface. second was nearly independent of electric for surface; contrast, linearly proportional These remarkable differences can be attributed factors tip-induced attractive deformation caused electrostatic force considerably more prominent deformed top layer had unique electronic similar single-layer graphene.

Laser-induced ultrafast electron emission from a field emission tip

We show that a fi eld emission tip electron source that is triggered with a femtosecond laser pulse can generate electron pulses shorter than the laser pulse duration (100  fs). The emission process is sensitive to a power law of the laser intensity, which supports an emission mechanism based on multiphoton absorption followed by over-the-barrier emission. Observed continuous transitions betw...

Laser-induced Field Emission from Tungsten Tip: Optical Control of Emission Sites and Emission Process

Field-emission patterns from a clean tungsten tip apex induced by femtosecond laser pulses have been investigated. Strongly asymmetric field-emission intensity distributions are observed depending on three parameters: (i) the polarization of the light, (ii) the azimuthal, and (iii) the polar orientation of the tip apex relative to the laser incidence direction. In effect, we have realized an ul...

Effect of band structure on field emission of crystalline graphite

V L Katkov and V A Osipov Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics, 141980 Dubna, Moscow region, Russia Abstract The field emission of crystalline AAA graphite is studied within a simple analytical approach with account of the exact dispersion relation near the Fermi level. The emission current is calculated for two crystal orientations with respect to ...

Field emission properties of fractal surfaces

The density of emission current by a rough surface with fractal structure is analyzed. A possible experimental setup is modeled by an irregular emitting surface, iteratively generated by a fractional Brownian motion FBM algorithm with roughness or Hurst exponent H=0.3 and a far away plane representing the anode. The boundaries are held at a fixed potential difference and the Laplace’s equation,...
